Why should one be careful about dogs and cats in Damoh? Vaccination intensified to prevent rabies

Crores of people across the country love animals. Pet dogs and cats are also considered as members of the family. But sometimes these animals can also become the cause of deadly diseases like rabies. Even in Damoh, people are being warned about this danger. Especially emphasis is being laid on timely vaccination of pet animals, so that rabies infection can be prevented from reaching humans and other animals.

There is also a risk of rabies in dogs and cats kept at home. Veterinarians said that if there is a sudden change in the behavior of an animal, it becomes more aggressive, remains restless, makes strange sounds or shows difficulty in drinking water, then one should be alert. Rabies can be spread through the bite of an infected animal or contact with its saliva. Therefore, it is being advised not to be careless in such matters in Damoh.

Rabies figures raise concerns
According to media reports, every year around 59 to 60 thousand people die due to rabies in the world. Its impact is serious in India also. According to statistics, every year around 18 to 20 thousand people are estimated to die due to rabies in the country. This figure is a large part of the deaths due to rabies in the world. Once the symptoms of the disease appear, it is almost always fatal, so timely treatment is very important.

Prevention possible with timely treatment
In case of rabies, caution is the most important step. After animal bites, proper wound cleaning, prompt medical attention, and post-exposure vaccination as needed can help prevent infection. In areas like Damoh where there are large forest areas around the population, it is important to keep an eye on the movement of animals. There is a possibility of infection spreading to other animals due to contact with infected animals in the forests, which can pose a danger to humans.

More concern in areas adjacent to forests
Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh is surrounded by large forest areas. Forest areas like Panna Tiger Reserve and Rani Durgavati Tiger Reserve are present around the district. In such a situation, there remains a possibility of contact between wild animals and animals living in populated areas. According to experts, there may be a risk of rabies spreading to nearby animals due to infected animals in the forests. Therefore, vigilance is considered even more important in Damoh.

Emphasis on vaccination in Damoh
In view of this situation, the central and state governments are making continuous efforts to prevent rabies. Vaccination camps are being organized for pets and other animals in different districts of Madhya Pradesh.
