News India Live, Digital Desk: After the declaration of JEE Main 2026 results by NTA, the biggest question in the minds of lakhs of students and parents is “Which college will I get my rank in?” The fight for admission in the top NITs that give flight to engineering dreams has started. If you also want to take admission in core branches like Computer Science (CSE) or Mechanical-Electrical, then read this predictor report carefully before JoSAA counselling.
Easy path for those with 99+ percentile: CSE confirmed in top 5 NITs?
Students who have scored between 99.5 to 99.9 percentile are almost open to Computer Science Engineering (CSE) in top institutes like NIT Tiruchirappalli (Trichy), NIT Karnataka (Surathkal) and NIT Warangal. The trends of opening and closing ranks of the last three years show that CSE seats are filled only up to the top 2000-3000 ranks in these colleges.
95 to 98 percentile: Where to get the best branch?
If your percentile is between 95 to 98, then you do not need to be disappointed. Students in this range are interested in mid-range NITs such as:
NIT Jalandhar, NIT Kurukshetra and NIT Durgapur You can get Electronics (ECE) or Mechanical Engineering in.
If you want only CSE, then you should NIT Raipur, NIT Agartala or NIT Meghalaya Like you can get a chance in the new NIT.
90-94 percentile: Home state quota will become support
‘Home State Quota’ can prove to be a lifesaver for general category students with 90 to 94 percentile. For example, if you are from Uttar Pradesh and your percentile is 93, then you have more chances of getting Civil or Chemical Engineering in Motilal Nehru NIT (MNNIT) Allahabad, whereas it may be difficult in Outside State quota.
There are options even at low percentile: keep an eye on IIITs and GFTIs
If your percentile is below 90, you should look at triple IITs (IIITs) or government funded institutes (GFTIs) instead of NITs. In many new IIITs, good branches are available even at 40,000 to 60,000 rank. Apart from this, best colleges can also be found through state counseling portals of states like Haryana and Punjab.
Keep these 3 things in mind during counselling:
Choice Filling: Always keep the college and branch of your choice on top, even if your rank is low.
Certificates: OBC-NCL and EWS certificates will be valid only after April 1, 2026, keep them ready.
CSAB Round: After the main round of JoSAA is over, in the special round (CSAB) held for vacant seats, many times top colleges are found even at low percentile.
