Prostate cancer is a serious disease of the male reproductive system. This cancer occurs in the prostate gland, which is located below the bladder and around the urethra. This gland helps in semen production. When the cells of this gland start growing abnormally, cancer develops. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), millions of men are affected by prostate cancer every year around the world, most of whom are above the age of 50.
Which men are at greater risk and what are their symptoms?
Dr. Rohit Kapoor of Max Hospital said that the risk of prostate cancer is highest in men above 50 years of age. This risk is higher in men who have a family history of this disease or who have lifestyle diseases like obesity, smoking or unhealthy diet. In the initial stages, its symptoms are mild, such as frequent urination, difficulty in urination or burning sensation during urination, blood in urine and pain in the thighs.
In severe cases, symptoms such as bone pain, weight loss, and fatigue may occur. If these symptoms are ignored, cancer can spread to other parts of the body. Therefore, timely medical examination and treatment is important.
