News India Live, Digital Desk: Pradosh Vrat dedicated to Lord Shiva is observed twice every month, on Trayodashi tithi of Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha. When this auspicious date falls on a Monday, its significance increases manifold and it is called Som Pradosh Vrat. This day is considered very special to get the blessings of Lord Shiva.

In November 2025, the second Pradosh Vrat of Kartik month will be observed on Monday, 3 November. Since it is Monday, this will be Som Pradosh fast, which is considered very fruitful for the devotees.

Why is Som Pradosh fast special?

It is believed that during Pradosh Kaal i.e. after sunset, Lord Shiva dances happily on Mount Kailash. He is very quickly pleased with the worship done at this time and fulfills every wish of his devotees. By fasting on Som Pradosh, the position of the Moon in the horoscope is strengthened, mental peace is achieved and relief from all types of diseases. This fast is also considered very auspicious for those who are facing obstacles in their marriage or who wish to have children.

  1. Morning preparation: On the day of Pradosh Vrat, wake up early in the morning, take bath and wear clean clothes. After this, take a resolution to fast while meditating on Lord Shiva.
  2. Fasting all day long: Keep fasting or fasting for the whole day. Keep chanting the mantra “Om Namah Shivay” in your mind.
  3. Evening Puja: In the auspicious time of puja in the evening, take bath and wear clean clothes once again.
  4. Worship of Shiva family: Install the idol or picture of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati on a clean stool. Anoint Shivling with Ganga water, milk, curd and honey.
  5. Offer beloved things: Offer his favorite Belpatra, Bhang, Dhatura and Shami leaves to Lord Shiva. Offer vermillion and wedding material to Goddess Parvati.
  6. Aarti and Katha: Meditate on God by lighting incense sticks, recite Shiva Chalisa and listen to the story of Som Pradosh fast. Finally, complete the puja by performing aarti of Lord Shiva.
  7. Pass: The fast is broken on the next day i.e. on Dwadashi Tithi after sunrise.
