Where to donate lamps?

On the day of Kartik Purnima, lighting lamps not only at home but also at some special places gives special virtue.

  1. On the banks of a sacred river or lake: The most important lamp donation on Dev Diwali is done on the banks of a holy river (like Ganga, Yamuna, Saryu) or pond. It is believed that this brings peace to the ancestors.
  2. At the main entrance of the house: In the evening, light one lamp each on either side of the main door of the house. Due to this, negative energy does not enter the house and Goddess Lakshmi arrives.
  3. Near Tulsi plant: Tulsi is considered the favorite of Lord Vishnu. On this day, by lighting a ghee lamp near Tulsi, one gets the blessings of both Shri Hari and Goddess Lakshmi.
  4. In the puja room: Light an Akhand lamp in your home temple, or at least let a ghee lamp burn throughout the night.
  5. Under the peepal tree: All the Gods and Goddesses are believed to reside in the Peepal tree. By lighting a lamp under the Peepal tree on this day, all the gods are pleased and the defects in the horoscope are also removed.
  6. At the kitchen and water point: Light a lamp each in your kitchen and where water is stored (like near the pot or RO). Due to this, the stores of food and money in the house are always full.
