‘Walking journey’ of 550 meters will end! Anand Vihar station’s circular bridge will be straightened, escalators will be installed

If you also catch a train from Anand Vihar Railway Station in Delhi and reach there by metro or bus, then you must have been troubled by that long, winding foot over bridge (FOB). This tiring walking journey of about half a kilometer with luggage is about to end soon. To solve this big problem of passengers, Railways is preparing for a big change.

Why is this bridge a headache?

A study by RITES, a survey agency, has revealed that about 64% of the passengers coming to Anand Vihar station (53% by metro and 11% by bus) use this footover bridge. But due to the ramp of this bridge being curved and very long, passengers have to walk about 550 meters i.e. more than half a kilometer to reach the platform. This distance becomes even more difficult with luggage.

So what is the new plan of Railways?

Understanding this problem of the passengers, ‘RITES’ has given some excellent suggestions to the Railways, which have also been liked by the Railways.

  1. The ‘circular’ ramp will be straight: The biggest change will be that a straight ramp will be built instead of the curved ramp, which will reduce the distance considerably.
  2. Escalators will be installed and stairs will be built: Now we will not have to depend only on ramps. Stairs will be built on one side and escalators will be installed on the other side to go up and down, which will make the journey fast and comfortable.
  3. The appearance outside the station will change:
    • Special lane for auto-taxi: Parking will be removed from the central part of the station and will be kept only for autos, taxis and emergency vehicles, so that there is no jam and it is easy for the passengers to get up and down.
    • New parking for private vehicles: The study has revealed that only 2% people come in their private vehicles. Therefore, it is proposed to shift their parking to the side of the drain.

Who are most of the travelers here?

This survey also shows that the majority (71%) of those traveling through Anand Vihar are working people. At the same time, 94% of the passengers are below 40 years of age, that is, mostly young and middle-aged people travel here, who know the value of time.

According to sources, Railways has liked this proposal of RITES very much and work on it can be started soon. After these changes, Anand Vihar station will not only become more convenient but also more organized and modern, which will provide great relief to lakhs of passengers every day.
