News India Live, Digital Desk: Even before the assembly elections in West Bengal, both the political temperature and ground situation have heated up. A big uproar has come to light in Malda district regarding the voter list. Here in Kaliachak area, an angry mob held seven judicial officers hostage inside the BDO office for about eight hours on Wednesday evening. The situation became so out of control that the crowd completely blocked National Highway-12. The fortunate thing was that after the deployment of heavy police force, the officers were evacuated safely late in the night.

Anger erupted over deletion of name from voter list According to the information, this whole controversy started over the allegations of verification of names in the voter list (SIR) and a large number of votes being deducted. On Wednesday, all these seven judicial officers had reached the BDO office at Kaliachak in Malda for the hearing and investigation of this case. As soon as the local people got wind of this, a large number of villagers reached there and started protesting outside the gate. The protesters clearly demanded that no officer would be allowed to go out until their names were added back to the voter list and a definite solution to the problem was found.

Food cooked on the road, stones pelted on police team too Along with taking the officers hostage, the mob created a ruckus in the area. The protesters completely blocked the National Highway-12 (NH-12) at many places by placing bamboo, broken glass and furniture. Protest was expressed by burning tires on the road and at some places villagers were seen cooking food in the middle of the road. Seeing the situation going out of control, when the police team reached the spot to take the officers out safely, the angry mob also pelted stones at the police vehicles. However, it is a matter of relief that there is no news of anyone being injured in this violent incident.

Election Commission became strict, political rhetoric also intensified Seeing the seriousness of this entire matter, State Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Aggarwal has adopted a strict stance and has immediately called for a detailed report from the district administration. At the same time, only after strict instructions from Director General of Police (DGP) Siddha Nath Gupta, the police team took immediate action and rescued the officers. Let us tell you that regarding this dispute, the Supreme Court has already given instructions to set up 19 tribunals in the state, where people affected by the voter list can appeal. On the other hand, after this incident, political rhetoric has also intensified in the state. Ruling Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh shied away from the issue and said that the entire election-related process is going on under the Election Commission, hence the responsibility of handling the situation entirely rests with the Commission.
