News India Live, Digital Desk: Violent Battle over land in dhanbad: On Monday, there was heavy tension and clash between the villagers and the police over a 41 -acre plot in Dhanbad district of Jharkhand, causing the situation to become almost like war. The dispute is about the land to be acquired for coal mines, where the villagers protesting the allowance of mining activities came out on the streets and staged a fierce protest.
The entire case is near the village of Begia on Mugma and Maithon border of Dhanbad. For the expansion of two outsourcing projects of Kusunda region of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Jhinak Outsourcing Project and Amlabad outsourcing projects, which are already running, this is to be acquired for 41 acres of land. So far these projects were proposed to be expanded on 254 acres of land of the village society and about 76 ryoti land. An attempt was also being made to include an additional land of about 41 acres in the new scheme, due to which there was a lot of dissatisfaction among the villagers.
The villagers allege that the CCL officials and the district administration want to capture their land without proper rehabilitation and compensation. He also alleges that when the CCL was being allowed to mining work, he was asked to take a decision by holding a gram sabha in 72 hours, while it is usually a month’s time for this process. They believe that this is a violation of the democratic process.
The villagers blocked the way and started protesting. When the police reached to control the situation, the villagers got excited and started throwing stones. In response, the police had to use force and lathi-charged to disperse the mob. Some villagers and policemen have also been injured in this clash. The local administration is currently trying to calm the situation and communicate with the villagers to find a peaceful solution to the problem, but the atmosphere of tension still remains. The event reflects the complex relations between development projects and the rights of local communities.
