Pithoragarh and Nainital will receive heavy rainfall, while thunderstorms, electricity and strong winds (40–50 km per hour) in other mountainous areas.
The weather patterns in Uttarakhand have been very volatile. After the heavy rains on Wednesday, the temperature in the height areas has declined, but the heat has increased further due to strong sunlight in the plains. According to IMD forecast, the hilly areas are cloudy, which has relieved the heat, but the journey may also be disrupted. In the height areas of Kumaon recorded a drop in temperature, while the temperature in the plains remains close to normal.
Warning of thunderstorm and lightning in many districts
IMD has warned of lightning and intense rains in the following areas: heavy rains in different areas of Nainital and Pithoragarh. There is a possibility of rain, lightning and strong winds (40–50 km per hour) in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh. The rest of the districts of Uttarakhand are expected to cause thunderstorms and strong winds (40-50 kmph).
Possibility of light rain on Dehradun and Char Dham Yatra route
The sky remained clear in the morning in Dehradun, causing the weather to be hot and dry, but in the evening it was partly cloudy. Chardham Yatra routes were intermittently cloudy and light drizzle occurred in some places.
Officers issued precautions for pilgrims and passengers
Pilgrims going on Char Dham Yatra have been advised to be cautious about the sudden change in weather. Passengers in the hilly areas should be prepared for temporary obstacles caused by rain and strong winds. Residents have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel in districts warning heavy rains.
Weather in the coming days
The Meteorological Center has predicted light to moderate rains in many mountainous areas, especially Nainital and Pithoragarh. Light rain may occur in Dehradun with cloudy. Moderate rain and strong winds are expected to blow on the Char Dham Yatra route. In some parts of Uttarakhand, due to the forecast of strong thunderstorms, officials are keeping a strict monitoring of the situation and advising to take precautions.
