Imagine, a man who runs 5 kilometers every day, never touches a cigarette, and takes full care of his food and drinks… he gets a heart attack! Sounds strange, doesn’t it? But this is exactly what happened with Bengaluru resident Karthik Srinivasan.

Despite his healthy lifestyle, he was shocked when he found out that he had two blockages in his heart and had to have a stent inserted. While sharing his ordeal on social media, he asked just one question – “Why me?”

His story is a big lesson for all those people who think that just by doing exercise, health is guaranteed.

“I did everything right…”

Karthik is a communication professional in Bengaluru. He says that since 2011 he has not been careless about his health.

  • run: “I used to run 5 kilometers every day, about 300 days a year.”
  • Food and drink: “I used to sleep early and was very conscious about my food. Almost stopped eating outside, always ate home-cooked food.”
  • No bad habits: “I don’t smoke. As far as I know, no one in my family has had heart disease.”
  • Less stress also: “When I started working from home in 2018, my stress also reduced significantly.”

Even after doing all this, when his heart betrayed him, it was natural for him to be shocked. He was fortunate that he reached the hospital on time and was treated.

Made these 2 big changes in life after heart attack

After angioplasty and two stents, Karthik realized that even his ‘perfect’ lifestyle was lacking something. He made only two small, but very effective changes in his life, which benefited him a lot.

  1. The magic of deep breathing: Kartik made it a habit to breathe deeply for a few minutes every day before sleeping and twice a day. He says that this not only gives him deep and good sleep, but he also feels absolutely refreshed when he wakes up in the morning.
  2. Apart from running, ‘walking’ is also important: Now he not only runs in the morning, but also runs throughout the day. 8,000 to 10,000 steps Let’s go also. He gave up the habit of sitting at one place for hours and started moving around every now and then, so that his body and heart remained active all the time.

Kartik’s story tells a harsh truth: running alone is not enough to keep a heart healthy. You equally need adequate sleep, a stress-free mind and a nutrient-rich diet. Health is not a one-way street, it is a 360-degree approach.
