UP Politics: Yogi government’s ‘huge’ bet! ‘Trimurti’ of 3 women IAS officers occupy the biggest department which gives economic strength to UP, holding the biggest posts

Lucknow, State Bureau. The role of Revenue Department is like the backbone in running the administrative and economic system of any state. This is the department which fills the state treasury and gives it financial strength for development works. The Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh has handed over the command of this most important and influential department to the three most capable and powerful women IAS officers of the country. This ‘Trimurti’ of women officers is currently engaged in the mission of making Uttar Pradesh prosperous and economically strong. Interestingly, out of these three senior women officers, two are originally from Andhra Pradesh.

Senior IAS Archana Aggarwal becomes the new chairperson of Revenue Council

While making administrative reshuffle, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has once again expressed great confidence in the efficiency and honesty of women. The government has appointed Archana Agarwal, a very senior IAS officer of the year 1990 batch, as the new Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Board of Revenue. Archana Agarwal, born in the year 1966 and a native of Andhra Pradesh, holds MA and MBA degrees. Before this, she had been the Collector (DM) of sensitive and VVIP districts like Sultanpur and Ayodhya of UP.

After long experience at the Centre, got the biggest responsibility in UP

Archana Aggarwal’s administrative career has been very illustrious and long. She has also been the Transport Commissioner of Uttar Pradesh in the year 2009-10. After this, she remained on deputation in the Central Government from 16 February 2016 to 16 October 2025, i.e. for more than nine years. After returning from the Center to Uttar Pradesh, he was given the responsibility of Additional Chief Secretary in the Transport Department and Chairman of UPSRTC. Now, considering his long and impeccable experience, the government has appointed him to the highest post of the Revenue Council.

The second most important member of this trinity is Aparna U, a 2001 batch IAS officer of UP cadre, who was posted as Principal Secretary Revenue in January this year. Aparna U, 51, originally from Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, has studied Law (LLB). She is known for taking many tough administrative decisions in Uttar Pradesh. Before this, she had handled important posts like Secretary and Director General in Medical Education Department, Managing Director (MD) of UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), Secretary in Basic Education Department and Irrigation Department.

Kanchan Verma holds the command of Secretary and Commissioner in the Revenue Council.

Kanchan Verma, a flamboyant IAS officer of the year 2005 batch, completes this female trinity of the Revenue Department. Kanchan Verma is posted on the very important post of Commissioner and Secretary in the Revenue Council, Uttar Pradesh from 16 September 2025. 49-year-old Kanchan Verma, born in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, has obtained MA and B.Ed degrees in Sociology. She has been the District Magistrate (DM) of districts like Balrampur in 2009, Bhadohi in 2010, Shravasti in 2011 and Mirzapur in 2016. Apart from this, she has also done excellent work on the post of CDO in Noida and Director General (DG School Education) in School Education Department.

New example of women empowerment and better governance

The Revenue Department of Uttar Pradesh mainly controls the land, revenue administration, land records, land acquisition and policy matters of the entire state. In such a situation, the appointment of these three women officers at the top level of the Revenue Council clearly shows that the Yogi government has fielded its best team to bring transparency in the biggest earning department of the state and streamline the administrative operations. This decision has become a unique example of women empowerment and good governance in UP.
