An under-construction tunnel collapsed in Shimla on Tuesday morning. The work of Tateri tunnel is going on in Chalonthi of Sanjauli on the four-lane under construction from Kalka to Shimla. On Monday evening, some stones and soil started falling here. After this, the manager showed wisdom and took out the workers and machinery working in the tunnel. Due to the wisdom and alertness of the manager, the lives of the workers were saved and there was no damage to the machine.

NHAI Project Manager Achal Jindal said that debris was dumped where the portal (gate) of the tunnel was being built. Work was going on to pave the way for the portal. Due to heavy rains, a landslide occurred at the portal of the tunnel. It is worth noting that tunnel construction work is going on in Shimla these days. Construction work of the four-lane tunnel is going on from Malyana to Chalonthi. People are afraid that the tunnel built near the helipad will collapse due to rain.

Several incidents of landslides have been reported due to rain in the hilly areas of the country, causing heavy loss of life and property. A cloud burst occurred in three districts of Himachal Pradesh at midnight on July 31. The death toll in the floods reached 26 on Friday. Four bodies were found in Dogri area near Sunninagar in Shimla district on Friday morning.

The blasts took place in Nirmand, Sainj and Malana in Kullu, Padhar in Mandi and Rampur subdivision in Shimla. Samej village on the border of Shimla and Kullu district was the worst affected, where around 20 people are still missing. Of the total dead, 14 bodies were recovered from Rampur, nine from Rajbhan village in Mandi and three from Nirmand/Bagipul in Kullu district. A total of 100 people lost their lives in rain-related incidents between June 27 and August 8 and the state suffered losses of around Rs 802 crore, officials said.
