Belagavi border dispute: There is a possibility of increase in Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute. This is because the border residents are expressing their anger after the Karnataka government did not allow them to organize a conference of Marathi speakers in Belagavi. Karnataka Police has banned the entry of leaders from Maharashtra into Karnataka. Reactions have started coming from political circles regarding this.

The winter session of Karnataka government has started. Also, Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti organized a grand gathering of Marathi speakers. Karnataka Police on Monday stopped Shiv Sena (UBT) delegates from entering Belagavi to attend the annual Marathi conference at the Maharashtra border. After this, the political turmoil on this issue has intensified. At the same time, both the big parties of the grand alliance, Congress and Shiv Sena, Uddhav faction had come face to face.

50 workers of Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti detained

Like every year, this year too the committee invited prominent politicians like Maharashtra’s Eknath Shinde, NCP chief Ajit Pawar, NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule of BJP and Uddhav camp. Is. The committee also invited and its representatives from Kolhapur started marching towards Belagavi amid heavy police presence on the inter-state border in both Maharashtra and Karnataka.

But as soon as the delegation reached the border, the Karnataka Police stopped them from proceeding. Maharashtra Police detained Army (UBT) representatives for blocking the road on Pune-Bengaluru NH 48 and brought them back to Kagal. At least 50 workers of Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti were detained.

What is unbridled controversy?

The Belagavi dispute is a long-running border dispute between Maharashtra and Karnataka over the Belagavi district of Karnataka. In 1956, when states in India were reorganized on linguistic lines, Belagavi district was allotted to the state of Karnataka. But Maharashtra argues that Belagavi district has a majority of Marathi speaking people and hence the area should be a part of Maharashtra geographically and culturally. Whereas Karnataka says that Belagavi has been a part of Karnataka for centuries and the culture here is more closely related to Kannada culture.

Why has the controversy increased in recent times?

This issue is often raised by political parties during elections in both the states, increasing tensions. Political parties repeatedly raise this issue for their own benefit and increase tension, which is harmful for the people of both the states. Belgaum has both Marathi and Kannada speakers, which also increases the linguistic tension. Disputes are also increasing between the two communities on social and cultural issues.
