Today, Wednesday, April 15, 2026, the shutters of banks will fall in many states of the country. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday list, today has been declared a public holiday in various states due to regional festivals like Bengali New Year (Poila Boishakh), Bohag Bihu, Vishu and Himachal Day. However, normal functioning will continue in many states including Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

There will be no work in these states and cities today

Today, on April 15, banks will remain closed mainly in those states where regional New Year or special day is being celebrated.

Affected States: West Bengal, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh.

major city: Bank branches will remain closed in Kolkata, Guwahati, Shimla, Kochi, Agartala and Thiruvananthapuram.

Banks will open here: Banks will operate normally in states like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow), Maharashtra (Mumbai), Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

Reason for holiday: Excitement from Poila Boishakh to Bihu

This week of April is full of festivals, due to which there is a long list of bank holidays:

Bengali New Year (Poila Boishakh): It is being celebrated with great enthusiasm in West Bengal and Tripura.

Bohag Bihu: This harvest festival will affect banking services in Assam.

Vishu: This festival, celebrated as New Year in Kerala, is the reason for the bank holiday there.

Himachal Day: There is a government holiday in the entire state to commemorate the Foundation Day of Himachal Pradesh.

There will be holiday in some cities tomorrow also

The process of bank holidays will not stop here. tomorrow i.e. 16 April (Thursday) Banks will also remain closed in cities like Itanagar, Kochi, Kolkata and Thiruvananthapuram on 30th March due to Bohag Bihu. After this, banks across the country will remain closed on April 19 as it is a Sunday. In such a situation, customers are advised to plan their banking operations according to this calendar.

Digital services will not be affected

Even though physical branches of banks remain closed today, there will be no ban on digital banking services. Customers can transact through internet banking, mobile banking and UPI while sitting at home. ATM services will also function smoothly, due to which there will be no shortage of cash.
