West Bengal’s ruling party Trinamool Congress (TMC) is currently going through the most challenging phase in its history. On one hand, the news of rebellion of MLAs and MPs within the party is continuously making headlines, while on the other hand, a big news of relief for Mamata Banerjee has also come out in this difficult time. Many prominent and senior leaders of the party have clearly refused to leave Mamata Banerjee’s hand in this time of crisis.
TMC’s star MPs Shatrughan Sinha and Kirti Azad have openly stood in support of Mamata Banerjee. Along with this, Babul Supriyo has also made it clear that he will remain firmly with his leader and party in this difficult situation. TMC MP Kirti Azad has expressed her opinion very openly on this entire political incident and the turmoil within the party.
There is no disunity in the party, those who grew like ‘leeches’ are running away
When there was a strong discussion in political circles that TMC was going to fall apart like a pack of cards, Kirti Azad completely rejected these claims. He says that there is no major split in the party and even at present TMC 28 MPs Are completely united and intact.
Making a strong attack on the rebel leaders, Kirti Azad said that those who kept growing like a ‘leech’ within the party for so many years and kept eating the cream, today seeing the bad times, the same fugitives are leaving the field and running away. Taking a dig at BJP, he said that the party which once talked about its separate work culture and principles, has today added ‘borrowed vermillion’ to its demand by including leaders of other parties. Citing the example of Shubhendu Adhikari, he also raised serious questions on the anti-corruption claims of the opposition.
‘Mamata Banerjee means TMC’
Recalling the struggles of Mamata Banerjee, Kirti Azad said in an emotional tone that Didi has not built this party by any shortcut but by watering it with her blood and sweat. He said:
“Mamata Banerjee has faced lathicharge to establish this party, her forehead was cracked, ribs and hands were broken. She was thrown by the hair and even thrown in the sewer in such a state that people thought she was dead. Despite all this, she stood up again. Therefore, if TMC really has any existence, then she is the one and only Mamata Banerjee. One can find many companions for victory, but the true character of a person is tested in his bad times. It just happens.”
Conspiracy against Abhishek Banerjee and counterattack on Kakoli Dastidar
Kirti Azad also spoke openly on the ongoing discussions regarding Abhishek Banerjee’s future and his status within the party. He admitted that when the opponents saw that Mamata Banerjee’s popularity could not be reduced directly, they launched a deliberate campaign against Abhishek Banerjee.
Defending Abhishek Banerjee, Azad said that he is still junior, new and is slowly taking over the leadership. If there is any shortcoming or mistake in their work, senior leaders will teach them, but there is no justification for running away from the party on this pretext. Along with this, he sharply retaliated on the anti-corruption statements of Lok Sabha MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar by giving air to his claims and his old controversies.
