In 2018, the US imposed restrictions on Russia, and Russia also retaliated by banning American institutions and officials. But their impact was limited as the trade between the two is low and the role of these countries in the world economy is limited. These restrictions have remained only symbolic opposition.

Why are the US restrictions less effective? America is an economic, military and diplomatic superpower. The world’s major business transactions are in dollars.
