News India Live, Digital Desk: Ramlila … On hearing this word, pictures of devotion and grandeur emerge in the mind. Ramlila is staged in every corner of the country during Dussehra, but Ramlila of some places is known for her centuries-old traditions and unique heritage. One such special Ramlila is in Sangam city Prayagraj, where Lord Shri Ram still sits on the 120 -year -old throne.

It is not a minor throne, but a living symbol of history and faith. Every year on the occasion of Dussehra, when the procession (outpost) of Lord Shri Ram comes out on the streets of Prayagraj, millions of eyes are desperate to get only a glimpse – that silver throne, on which Maryada Purushottam Ram sits with his brother Laxman and wife Sita.

Where did this historical throne come from?

This amazing and precious throne is the precious heritage of Prayagraj’s famous ‘Pattharchatti Ramlila Committee’. The story is around 120 years old, around 1904. At that time, Raja Gulab Singh used to be the Maharaja of Rewa (Madhya Pradesh). It is said that Maharaja Saheb was an exclusive devotee of Lord Rama and Prayagraj had a deep attachment to this Ramlila.

In order to express his devotion and reverence, he presented this grand throne made of about 65 kg of pure silver to the Ramlila Committee. From then till today, that is, for more than a century, this throne is used on two most special occasions of Ramlila.

It leaves the locker for only two days in a year

Given the price and historical significance of this throne, special care is also taken for its safety. It remains closed in a safe locker of the bank throughout the year. It is taken out only on two occasions:

  1. Vijayadashami’s procession (outpost): On the day of Dussehra, when the grand procession of Lord Shri Ram passes through the streets of Prayagraj, the forms of God are seated on this throne. Thousands of people draw this throne and see this royal ride.
  2. The coronation of Shri Ram: At the end of Ramlila, when the coronation of Lord Shri Rama takes place, he is placed on this 120 -year -old throne. This moment is so alive that as if the time has stopped and people have really reached the Treta Yuga.

This tradition of Prayagraj is not just a custom, but a proof of our rich cultural heritage, which has been saved by generations. This tells us how deep the roots of faith and devotion are, which keeps on getting stronger over time.
