The purchase of 3.40 lakh tonnes of dal on minimum support price was completed

Mumbai: Under the Price Support System (PSS), the government has so far procured 3.40 lakh tonnes of dal in the current season. The Ministry of Agriculture said that this purchase is being done at the minimum support price.

The government has approved the purchase of a total of 13.22 lakh tonnes of dal from nine states of the country. The government has decided to maintain a buffer stock of 1 million tons of dal for sale in the open market in the event of price hike.

The data of the Ministry of Agriculture shows that the purchase of 3.40 lakh tonnes has been completed by 13 April. The maximum purchase was 1.30 lakh tonnes from Karnataka. The central government has fixed the minimum support price of tur dal at Rs 7,550 per quintal for the current season.

Apart from Karnataka, pulses are also being purchased from Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh. Apart from tur dal, the government has also completed the purchase of 17,000 tonnes of gram.

This purchase has been mainly made from Telangana and Madhya Pradesh. Since the open market price of gram is more than the support price, it is being purchased slowly by the government.

Sources said that a support price of Rs 5,650 per quintal has been fixed for gram and a target of procurement of 27,000 tonnes has been fixed. Purchas and moong are also being procured through government agencies. Meanwhile, the purchase of wheat on the support price has increased by 92 percent to 83.58 lakh tonnes on an annual basis.
