The most difficult and most auspicious fast of the year: When is the second Ekadashi of June 2026? The most difficult and most virtuous fast of the year: When is the second Ekadashi of June 2026?

In Sanatan Dharma, Ekadashi fast is considered to be the best among all the fasts and the best means to get the blessings of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu. Actually, according to the Hindu calendar, Ekadashi comes twice every month (Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha), due to which there are a total of 24 Ekadashis in the whole year. But when there are more months or Malmas in a year, the number of these Ekadashis increases to 26. Among all these, ‘Nirjala Ekadashi’ falling in the Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month is considered to be the biggest, most difficult and most virtuous Ekadashi. According to religious beliefs, if a person is unable to observe the fast of all the 24 Ekadashis of the year, then he can take full advantage of all the Ekadashis of the year by observing the fast of only this one Ekadashi with full devotion. In this special religious report of writer Vineeta Mandal, know the exact date of this second Maha-Ekadashi of June 2026 and the complete calendar of worship.

Why is it called Bhimseni Ekadashi, this Mahavrat is like doing penance without water in the scorching heat.

The second Ekadashi fast of June 2026 i.e. the great festival of ‘Nirjala Ekadashi’ will be observed with full devotion this time on 25 June 2026. The biggest and most difficult feature of this fast is that from sunrise till sunrise of the next day, leave alone food, not even a drop of water is consumed. Keeping fast without water in this scorching and scorching heat of the month of June is no less than a difficult penance, which is why it has been given the top position among all the Ekadashis. According to mythology, during the Mahabharata period, Bhima among the five Pandavas was unable to observe any fast due to his intense hunger, then on the advice of Maharishi Vedvyas, he observed this waterless fast on Jyeshtha Shukla Ekadashi. For this reason it is also known as ‘Pandav Ekadashi’, ‘Bhimseni Ekadashi’ or ‘Bhim Ekadashi’.

According to the Panchang, note down the exact date of Nirjala Ekadashi 2026 and VIP time of worship.

According to the calculations of the Vedic calendar, the Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month will start on June 24, 2026 at 6:12 pm. At the same time, this Ekadashi Tithi will end the next day i.e. on June 25, 2026 at 8:09 pm. Due to the importance of Udaya Tithi in the scriptures, the main fast of Nirjala Ekadashi will be observed on 25th June only. On this day, two Mahamuhurtas are considered best for special worship of Lord Vishnu. The first is Brahma Muhurta which will last from 4:37 am to 5:20 am. After this, Abhijit Muhurta will be from 12:15 pm to 1:08 pm in the afternoon. By worshiping Shri Hari during this time, all the wishes of the devotees are immediately fulfilled.

These special things are very dear to Shri Hari Vishnu, do not make these big mistakes even by mistake at the time of worship.

On the day of Nirjala Ekadashi, wake up early in the morning, take bath, wear yellow clothes and take a pledge to fast. While worshiping Lord Vishnu, offer him yellow flowers, Panchamrit made from cow’s milk, yellow sandalwood, Akshat and most importantly ‘Tulsi Dal’ (Basil leaves). Remember that worship of Lord Vishnu is considered incomplete without Tulsi. Along with this, on this day, donating food, yellow fruits to hungry people and sherbet or pitcher of cold water to passers-by, as per one’s capacity, is considered a great virtue. By doing this, all kinds of troubles, poverty and sins are erased from the life of the person forever and happiness and prosperity reside in the house.

Do not delay at all in the time of Paran, break your fast only at this auspicious time on 26th June.

Any Ekadashi fast is considered complete only when its Parana (breaking of the fast) is done at the right time as mentioned in the scriptures. Nirjala Ekadashi fast will be broken on the next day i.e. 26th June 2026, Friday. The most auspicious and accurate time to perform Parana will be from 6.03 am to 8.42 am. Keep in mind that on the day of Paran Tithi, the time of end of Dwadashi Tithi is 10.22 PM, but according to the rules of the scriptures, it is always best and fruitful to break the Ekadashi fast after Hari Vasar has passed and in the early hours after sunrise within Dwadashi Tithi.
