News India Live, Digital Desk: When we look at the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on the map of India, they often seem beautiful beaches and holidays. But these are not just islands, these are the stratégic ‘eyes and ears’ of India in the Indian Ocean, which are very important for the security of the country. And in ‘Great Nicobar’, located at the southern end of this island, is taking a project shape that is considered to be the biggest headache for India’s ‘Game Changer’ and China.
Understand the full game of ‘Malacca Strait’ in easy language
Before understanding this project, a story has to be understood – the story of China’s biggest weakness, named ‘Malka Strait’. This is a narrow sea route between Indonesia and Malaysia. More than 80% of China’s crude oil and the goods coming from all over the world pass through this path. In easy language, it is China’s ‘Lifeline’.
If ever there is a situation of stress, India can easily block this route, which can stagnate China’s economy and energy supply. This fear is called ‘Malacca Dilema’. Now imagine, at the right mouth of this narrow path, India makes a huge port, naval base and airbase in Great Nicobar? This is the ‘Brahmastra’, which is sleeping in China.
What is Great Nicobar Project?
The Modi government is working on a mega project on this island at a cost of Rs 75,000 crore. Under this, an international container transmission port will be built here, which will compete with ports like Singapore and Dubai. Also a new airport, a modern city and power plant will also be built. This project will not only make India a new center of trade, but will also increase our military strength in the Indian Ocean manifold. From here, the Indian Navy and the Air Force will be able to monitor the entire Malacca Strait and the surrounding sea route round the clock.
But … Why did such an important project stop more than a decade?
Today this project is moving fast, but the question arises as to why there was so much delay in implementing such an important project for the security of the country? According to reports, when the UPA government was there, environmental concerns were raised about this project. At that time, the National Advisory Council (NAC) headed by Sonia Gandhi and the then Environment Ministry had raised several objections on it, due to which the scheme went on hold.
During that time it was argued that this project would harm the island’s environment, forest and tribes living there. Due to these concerns, this important project has been suppressed in files for years, while on the other hand, China continued to increase its penetration in the Indian Ocean.
Today’s geopolitical truth is that it has become more important for India to keep its marine borders and business routes safe than ever. The Great Nicobar Project is a decisive step in this direction, which can bow the power balance in the Indian Ocean forever in India’s favor.
