Tension increased again in the market; Sensex fell 454 points to 72643

Mumbai: With the announcement of stress test results by mutual funds as per SEBI, AMFI, the stress test results in the market have again increased and the preparation for Lok Sabha elections and the end of financial year 2023-24 i.e. end of March in local funds today over the weekend. Shares rose again. Bullish trading subsided. Retail investors, high net worth investors and players moderated the bullish trade today after small, mid cap stocks witnessed a big recovery yesterday after big losses in the early part of the week. With the date of Lok Sabha elections set to be announced tomorrow on Saturday, many players cut bullish trade and showed choppy moves ahead of election fever hitting the market and the possibility of low liquidity making it difficult to sell stocks. There was selling in automobile, capital goods, oil-gas, healthcare, IT, banking frontline stocks. Sensex fell 453.85 points to 72643.43 and Nifty 50 spot index fell 123.30 points to 2023.35.

Among auto stocks, Apollo Tires fell by Rs 30, Mahindra by Rs 90, TVS Motors by Rs 96, Tata Motors by Rs 22.

Shares of automobile companies fell heavily today due to large-scale selling. Apollo Tires fell by Rs 29.80 to Rs 473.05, Mahindra & Mahindra fell by Rs 89.95 to Rs 1801.85, TVS Motors fell by Rs 95.70 to Rs 2067.10, Tata Motors fell by Rs 21.60 to Rs 946.20. Hero MotoCorp fell by Rs 4583.35, Ashok Leyland fell by Rs 2.10 to Rs 161.90, Cummins India fell by Rs 31.25 to Rs 2703.40. While MRF rose by Rs 1063.35 to Rs 1,41,380.80, Maruti Suzuki by Rs 80.75 to Rs 11,477.80, Bosch by Rs 191 to Rs 29,600. BSE Auto Index fell 820.33 points to close at 46319.82.

BSE Small Cap index rose 105 points, Mid Cap index fell 196 points.

BSE Small Cap Index rose 105.63 points to 42012.75 today due to selective buying in small cap stocks. Whereas overall, due to selling in midcap shares, BSE midcap index fell by 196.02 points and closed at 38250.44. BSE SME IPO index also closed down 131.99 points at 50,866.32 today.

Selling in oil and gas stocks due to falling prices of petrol and diesel; HPCL Rs 31, BPCL Rs 32

Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, petrol and diesel prices were cut by Rs 2 per liter each against rising crude oil prices, leading to selling in oil-marketing stocks in anticipation of an impact on oil companies' margins. HPCL fell by Rs 31.20 to Rs 468.95, IOC fell by Rs 9.30 to Rs 161.15, BPCL fell by Rs 22.75 to Rs 586.25, ONGC fell by Rs 4.25 to Rs 259, Reliance Industries fell by Rs 4.25 to Rs 259. Linde India fell by Rs 28 to Rs 2837.25, Linde India fell by Rs 59.05 to Rs 6353.90. The BSE Oil-Gas index fell 616.16 points to close at 26886.33.

Capital goods index fell 719 points; BHEL fell by Rs 10, Thermax by Rs 129, Larsen by Rs 71.

Even among capital goods stocks, BSE Capital Goods Index fell 718.57 points to close at 56820.05 as funds booked profits. BHEL fell by Rs 9.70 to Rs 216.70, Thermax fell by Rs 128.65 to Rs 3482.40, Bharat Electronics fell by Rs 6.95 to Rs 188.85, Hindustan Aeronautics fell by Rs 68.20 to Rs 3098.85, Larsen & Toubro fell by Rs 70.95 to Rs 3535.40, Laxmi Machine Works Rs 158.70 Falling to Rs 13,820.80, ABB India fell by Rs 39.30 to Rs 5600.

Sell-off in finance, banking stocks; Selling in BOB, State Bank, AU Small Bank

Funds were seen selling PSU bank shares as well as private bank shares today. Bank of Baroda fell by Rs 5.45 to Rs 253.80, State Bank of India fell by Rs 8.75 to Rs 732, AU Small Bank fell by Rs 5.65 to Rs 578.35, Axis Bank fell by Rs 10.20 to Rs 1048.30, ICICI Bank fell by Rs 4.90 to Rs 1078.60. Indian LIC fell by Rs 33.95 to Rs 924.85, PNB fell by Rs 2.90 to Rs 117.75, Central Bank fell by Rs 1.04 to Rs 59.50.

Net purchase of shares worth Rs 849 crore by FPIs/FIIs; DII net sales Rs 682 crore

Foreign portfolio investors-FPIs, FIIs made net purchases of shares worth Rs 848.56 crore in cash today-Friday. There were sales of Rs 48,655.99 crore against total purchases of Rs 49,504.55 crore. While DII-domestic institutional investors made a net sale of shares worth Rs 682.26 crore in cash today. There were sales of Rs 15,936.87 crore against total purchases of Rs 15,254.61 crore.

The asset-market capitalization of investors in stocks fell by Rs 1.49 lakh crore to Rs 378.49 lakh crore.

After a sharp recovery in investor wealth in stocks yesterday, with selling in many stocks again today-Friday, the total market capitalization of BSE listed companies fell by Rs 1.49 lakh crore in a single day to Rs 378.49 lakh crore.
