New Delhi: The Supreme Court Collegium on Monday approved the transfer of Delhi High Court Judge Yashwant Verma to the Allahabad High Court. However, the Allahabad Bar Association lawyers have gone on indefinite strike since Tuesday in protest against the Supreme Court’s decision. Justice Verma was facing investigation in the case of large quantity of cash being recovered from his government residence. Judicial work has been taken away from them and ordered to be sent back to their original post, Allahabad High Court.
The Supreme Court website states that the recommendation of their transfer has been sent to the center. The Supreme Court collegium met on 20 and 24 March. In this meeting, a resolution was passed and recommended to transfer Judge Yashwant Verma of Delhi High Court back to Allahabad High Court from where he came.
The collegium recommended that Chief Justice Verma be sent back to Allahabad High Court. However, the Allahabad High Court Bar Association has strongly opposed the proposal of the Supreme Court. Bar Association chief Anil Tiwari has urged the Chief Justice not to transfer Justice Yashwant Verma not only to the Allahabad High Court but to any other court. He said that no court is a dustbin.
The Supreme Court had said on March 21 that Chief Justice of Delhi High Court D.K. Upadhyay has launched an internal investigation against Justice Verma and his transfer is a separate proposal. He has no concern with this investigation. The Supreme Court said that misinformation and rumors about the robbery incident at Justice Verma’s residence are being spread.
The Supreme Court said that Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Upadhyay has started an internal investigation against him. They are collecting evidence against him. The process of transfer of Justice Verma has started after the Center accepted the recommendation of the Supreme Court.
The fire personnel, who arrived at the residence of Justice Varman Lutyens in Delhi at around 11:30 am on March 14, received cash there. Justice Sanjeev Khanna and the Delhi High Court had given several decisions on the issue as the head of the collegium of the Supreme Court, including snatching judicial work from Justice Verma. The Delhi High Court has removed Judge Verma from the list with immediate effect. As a result, they will no longer be able to conduct any legal proceedings or decisions in the Delhi High Court.
