Side Effects Of Eating Too Many Eggs: Does eating 50 eggs at once really lead to death? Excess Egg Consumption: Can eating 50 eggs at once really lead to death.

Egg is a powerhouse of protein, vitamins and omega-3 fatty acids. It is considered a ‘superfood’ in the fitness world, but what if you take it as a ‘challenge’ and eat 50 eggs in one go? Recently, the death of a person in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh has brought this question to the fore in a horrifying manner. The death of a man while eating his 42nd egg during a bet has forced the entire nation to think whether our digestive system is capable of handling such a huge amount of nutrition?

What is that tragic incident of Jaunpur?

According to media reports, a bet of Rs 2,000 was made between two friends in Bibiganj market of Jaunpur as to who would eat 50 eggs first. When 42-year-old Subhash Yadav reached near the 42nd egg, he suddenly fell unconscious. His condition deteriorated while being taken to the hospital and he later died. Doctors’ initial belief was that consuming too much food in such a short period of time could put immense pressure on the body’s vital organs, which proved fatal.

Why does ‘overload’ have a bad effect on the body?

According to experts, eating too many eggs at one go puts unbearable pressure on the digestive system. The main reasons behind this are:

  • Aspiration: Swallowing food too quickly can cause it to get stuck in the windpipe, leading to the risk of suffocation.

  • Sudden increase in cholesterol: Egg yolk contains high amount of cholesterol. Consuming 50 yolks simultaneously can have dangerous effects on blood circulation and heart function.

  • Failure of digestive system: Excessive protein and fat combined can cause severe stomach discomfort, vomiting and acidity, which can lead to an emergency.

Is it dangerous to eat eggs every day

Scientific research is divided on this. Researchers at Zhejiang University believe that for longer life and better heart health, consuming egg white may be safer than eating the whole yolk. At the same time, Professor Riyaz Patel, a cardiologist at University College London, says that eggs should be a part of a balanced diet, but they should be taken in limited quantities only. People who consume eggs daily should take care of their overall diet and physical activity.

What is the right way to stay healthy

To get the benefits of eggs, eat them not as a ‘challenge’ but as food. 1 to 2 eggs a day are considered safe for healthy adults. If you do gym or heavy workouts, decide the quantity as per the advice of your nutritionist or doctor. Remember, any nutrient is beneficial only when it is taken as per the need of the body. ‘Excess’ is always harmful, even if it is a nutritious food like eggs.
