News India Live, Digital Desk: Shane Warne’s Unique Legacy: ‘Leg spin’s magician’ Shane Warne, recorded in golden letters in the pages of cricket history, is not interested in any introduction. He became the first bowler of Test cricket to touch the magical figure of 700 wickets. His achievement was not only a record, but the spin was the beginning of a new era in the bowling world, which made the batsmen from all over the world on his spin. This historic moment took place on 26 December 2006 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), when he made this unbelievable achievement during the Ashes Series against the arch-rivals England. In the Boxing Day Test match, there was a tough competition between Australia and England. On the first day of the match, in England’s first innings, when Andrew Strauss was batting, Warne put a moving ball that did not understand the Strauss and became clean bold. With this wicket, Warne became the first bowler in history to take 700 Test wickets. In that match, Shane Warne took 5 wickets for just 39 runs in the first innings, while in the second innings he took 2 wickets for 30 runs. Thanks to his brilliant bowling, Australia won the match by a big margin of one innings and 99 runs, making his position stronger in the Ashes series. Shane Warne started his Test career against India in 1992. He took a total of 708 wickets in his entire Test career, the second most wickets after 800 wickets from Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka. Warne retired from Test cricket after a clean sweep 5–0 in the 2006-07 Ashes series. Apart from his bowling, Warne was also known for his aggressive fielding and his specific ‘Ball of the Century’, which led to him everywhere. However, sadly, this great star of cricket said goodbye to this world on March 4, 2022. Worn not just made figures, but with his spin, he filled the minds of the batsmen and introduced a leg-spinning trend that inspired the bowlers of the upcoming generation. His name is immortal in cricket history.
