In ‘Garuda Purana’, the main scripture of Sanatan Dharma, the ways of living life as well as the results of one’s deeds after death have been described in detail. In the scriptures, usurping someone else’s property, land or money by deceit has been kept in the category of biggest sins. Often people, in their greed, snatch away the rights of others, but they forget that they will have to pay their dues in the court of Dharmaraj. It is clarified in Garuda Purana that a person who unethically appropriates the money, land or hard-earned money of others has to suffer extremely painful tortures in hell. It is not just a social crime, but a great sin that can affect a person’s destiny for generations to come.
Nature of punishment according to Garuda Purana
According to Garuda Purana, such persons are given severe hell tortures like ‘Raurav’ and ‘Maha Raurav’ in Yamalok. According to beliefs, the messengers of Yamraj give various types of punishments to those who grab the land or property of others by deceit. It is said that a person who grabs someone else’s property has to face poverty and diseases in his next births. It is mentioned in the scriptures that after death, when the soul reaches Lord Yamraj, the sins committed by him are first accounted for, because snatching the rights of a helpless or innocent person is an unforgivable crime in the eyes of God.
The love of money and the cycle of karma
Often people think that they can take possession of property by escaping from the eyes of law or society, but according to Garuda Purana, no one can escape from the power of God. All the wealth accumulated by a man remains here, only his deeds go with him. A person who, blinded by greed, takes away the property of others by causing them pain, not only corrupts his character but also loses his peace of mind. The scriptures teach us that a little wealth earned honestly brings happiness and peace, while wealth worth crores acquired dishonestly ultimately leads only to destruction. Therefore, one should always try to progress in life by following the path of justice and religion.
