Dehradun, September 03 (HS). Panchayati Raj Minister Satpal Maharaj has said that the siege of his government residence on September 9 by the Uttarakhand Tri-Tier Panchayat Organization was politically motivated. He has accused the state convener of the organization of trying to mislead him by spreading false and misleading propaganda against him.
Panchayat Raj Minister Satpal Maharaj said in a statement that the statement of Jagat Martolia, convener of the three-tier Panchayat Organization, that the Chief Minister had given him the responsibility of preparing a report to extend the tenure of panchayats by two years, is nothing but a lie and misleading propaganda against him. He said that in the meeting held with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on July 31, it was said on behalf of the organization that the tenure of panchayats in Jharkhand was extended during the Corona period, so the tenure should be extended in Uttarakhand as well. During the talks, the people of the organization were clearly told that panchayat elections had come in the middle of the Corona period there, so their tenure was extended, whereas the Corona period has ended here, so there is a constitutional obligation to conduct the three-tier Panchayat elections on time. Despite this, the Chief Minister took serious cognizance of their demands and sent it to the Law Department, asking for a test from the Lord Department and said that it would be considered only after the test. As far as extending the tenure of panchayats by two years is concerned, no such talk had taken place.
The Panchayati Raj Minister said that the misleading propaganda being carried out against me by the convener of the organization is fabricated, false and politically motivated. Whatever demand for extension of tenure is made by the Panchayat organization will be considered in accordance with the test report and the Constitution.
