After paying tribute to the martyrs at the martyrdom site in Dehradun on Saturday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said, “The creation of Uttarakhand was not just a political decision, but it is the result of sacrifice, struggle and determination of millions of people.” He recalled the painful incidents of Khatima, Mussoorie and Rampur Tiraha, where many people lost their lives fighting for the state. Paying tribute to the martyrs, he said, “The pension and other facilities given to the agitators are not just any financial assistance, but a symbol of the gratitude of this state towards them.”
Big announcements from the government for the agitators:
- The village will be named after the martyrs: Roads and other infrastructure facilities in the native villages of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the state will now be named after them.
- Huge increase in pension:
- The monthly pension of those who spent 7 days or more in jail or were injured during the movement has been increased from ₹6,000 to ₹7,000.
- The monthly pension of other categories of agitators has also been increased from ₹4,500 to ₹5,500.
- The biggest increase has been made in the pension of those agitators who became disabled during the movement. Now he will get a pension of ₹30,000 per month instead of ₹20,000. Additionally, a medical assistant will also be provided to take care of them.
- The pension of dependents of martyrs has also been increased by ₹2,500.
