On one hand, Rajpal Yadav is active on social media, while on the other hand, his lawyer Bhaskar Upadhyay came out of the court and while talking to the media, clarified the current status of the case. The lawyer said that the court, while accepting about ₹ 2.5 crore deposited by him earlier, has said that it will be added to the total dues of ₹ 11 to ₹ 11.5 crore. When the media asked the lawyer whether Rajpal Yadav would have to go to jail immediately? So he replied:

“We had asked the court for some time to complete the legal process, accepting which the judge has given us an extension of two months. Therefore, Rajpal Yadav is not going to jail for the next two months. We will thoroughly study the copy of this court order and prepare for further legal review.”

The controversy started from the year 2010, know what is the entire check bounce case?

This whole legal dispute started in the year 2010, when Rajpal Yadav had decided to make his first Bollywood film as a director ‘Ata Pata Lapata’. He had taken a business loan of ₹5 crore from Murali Projects Private Limited for the production of the film. Unfortunately, this film flopped badly at the box office and Rajpal Yadav could not return the loan amount on time. After this, the checks given by him to repay the money bounced in the bank and with the addition of interest, the total amount crossed ₹9 crore.

Journey from Magistrate Court to Tihar Jail

In this case, in the year 2018, the Magistrate Court had convicted Rajpal Yadav and his wife Radha and sentenced them to 6 months in jail. In the year 2019, the Sessions Court also accepted this decision as correct, against which Rajpal had approached the Delhi High Court. In June 2024, the High Court had stayed the punishment and ordered the payment of the amount. After this, due to legal complications, Rajpal Yadav had to surrender in Tihar Jail on the orders of the court in February 2025. However, after being in jail for about 11 days and depositing an additional amount of ₹ 1.5 crore, he got interim bail from the court. Now it remains to be seen what new twist comes in this high-profile case after a delay of 2 months.
