News India Live, Digital Desk: A big news has come out about Asaram Bapu, who has been serving life sentence in Jodhpur Central Jail for the last 11 years in the case of rape of a minor. In view of the continuously deteriorating health condition of Asaram, the Rajasthan High Court six months interim bail (Interim Bail) has been given. This is the first time that Asaram has got such relief in so many years.
However, this is not an ordinary bail and very strict conditions have also been imposed with it.
Why did Asaram get bail?
Asaram had filed a bail petition in the High Court citing his health problems, especially prostate cancer and other serious diseases. In this case, the medical report of Jodhpur’s AIIMS Hospital became a major basis. In the report presented in the court, the doctors had said that Asaram’s condition is serious and his health is continuously deteriorating, which requires better treatment. Keeping this medical report in mind, the division bench of Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati gave this decision on humanitarian grounds.
The ashram itself will become a ‘temporary jail’, the conditions are very strict
The High Court has made it clear that during the bail, Asaram will not be able to go anywhere as per his wish. Very strict conditions have been imposed for him:
- Will have to stay in the ashram only: During the entire period of bail, Asaram will have to stay in his ashram located in Manai village near Jodhpur. He will not be able to go out of this ashram.
- Just out for treatment: He will be allowed to go out of the ashram only for treatment.
- Treatment under police supervision: Even before going to the hospital, he will have to inform the local police first. A police team will always accompany him to the hospital.
- 24 hour police guard: There will be a 24-hour police guard outside his ashram in Manai village to ensure that he does not violate any of the conditions.
In simple words, Asaram’s jail has been shifted from Jodhpur Central Jail to his ashram, where he will remain under strict police surveillance.
What was the whole matter?
Let us tell you that in the year 2013, a minor girl had accused Asaram of raping her in his ashram near Jodhpur. After a long hearing, in 2018, a special court of Jodhpur convicted him in this case and sentenced him to life imprisonment till death, after which he was continuously in jail.
