News India Live, Digital Desk: As the winter season approached, the blanket of fog began to weigh heavily on rail traffic, due to which trains often got delayed and passengers had to face problems. But this will not happen now. Northern Railway has taken a big step to deal with this problem.
Railways has installed GPS based ‘Fog Safety Device’ in all its passenger and goods trains. This is a technology that even in dense fog, gives advance information to the loco pilot (train driver) about the upcoming signal. This helps them to control the speed of the train and makes the journey safe.
How does this new technology work?
This device works through GPS and the complete map of the railway track is already fed in it. As soon as a signal, railway crossing or any other important place is approaching, this device alerts the loco pilot through voice and display. The alarm starts ringing about 500 meters before the signal, making the driver completely alert.
Now trains will run 25% faster
Earlier, during fog, the maximum speed of trains was limited to 60 kilometers per hour. But after the installation of this new fog safety device, trains can now run at a speed of 75 kilometers per hour. This means that now trains will be able to run about 25 percent faster even in fog.
With the advent of this technology, not only has the speed of trains increased, but it has also increased the confidence of the loco pilot. Also, now the Railways no longer requires ‘Fog Signal Man’, who earlier had to be deployed on the tracks during fog.
With this step of the Railways, it is expected that this winter, passengers will get relief from the delays caused by fog to a great extent and their journey will be comfortable and safe. These devices have also been made available in sufficient quantities in Lucknow, Izzatnagar and Varanasi divisions of North Eastern Railway.
