After the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 was passed by Parliament, protests and rallies have been organized in many parts of the country. After the prayers of Jumme, people of Muslim community protested in various states of the country, while opposition parties have termed the Act as unconstitutional and discriminatory. In many cities including Kolkata, Kashmir, Lucknow and Mumbai, people came out on the streets against this law and expressed their displeasure.

Students rally in Kolkata

Students of Alia University in Kolkata took out a rally against the Waqf (Amendment) Act on Friday. The students started a march from the university campus and blocked traffic for some time on ‘Seven Point Crossing’. The protesters demanded withdrawal of laws. One student said that the act is discriminated against a community contrary to the slogan of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’.

PDP protest in Kashmir March, police stopped

In Srinagar, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) marched against the Waqf law, which was stopped by the police. The workers led by PDP General Secretary Khurshid Alam wanted to go out of the party headquarters and march towards the city, but the police stopped them by putting a blocker at the gate. The activists protested with placards such as “We reject the Waqf Bill” and “Neck’s silence criminal”.

The PDP described the Act as against democracy in the night as against democracy and questioned the silence of the neck.

Demonstration under the leadership of Maulana Kalbe Jawad in Lucknow

After the prayer of Jumme in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, there was a protest at Asifi Mosque led by Shia religious leader Maulana Syed Kalbe Jawad. He also raised the demand to rebuild the Jannatul Baki cemetery located in Madina, Saudi Arabia along with the Waqf Act.

Kalbe Jawad described the country’s secular structure in danger and accused leaders like Nitish Kumar, Chandrababu Naidu of spreading confusion in the name of secularism.

AIMIM leaders detained in Mumbai

Police detained several leaders and activists, including AIMIM National Spokesperson Waris Pathan, during a protest against the Waqf Act near the Baikula Mosque in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Waris Pathan said that this law is a direct attack on the rights of the Muslim community and until it is withdrawn, peaceful protest will continue. He also said that as agricultural laws were canceled, this act should also be withdrawn.

Protests continued from Parliament to road

Opposition parties continuously opposed it before and after the Waqf (Amendment) Act was passed in Parliament. The issue was fiercely debated in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, but eventually this bill has become a law by passing both houses. Now various organizations, religious leaders and political parties have come out on the streets in protest.
