A very shameful and shocking case of open misuse of power and influence by army officers has come to light in Pakistan. When a female professor of the university at the prestigious ‘Pir Mehar Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University’ (PMAS Arid Agriculture University) located in Rawalpindi, Punjab province, sought help from her husband, who is serving in the Pakistani Army. Major (Army Major) They entered the campus with armed soldiers and opened fire indiscriminately on unarmed students. In this sensational firing, a student was seriously injured, after which tension spread in the entire university campus and the students started protesting against the dominance of the army and administrative highhandedness.
Case started due to class dispute: Professor wife called husband
According to eyewitnesses to the incident and primary information recorded, there was a heated argument between a female professor and some students in a department of the university over some academic and administrative issue.
Instead of resorting to the university’s disciplinary committee or the security guards to resolve the dispute, the female professor called her husband, who is posted as a Major in the Pakistan Army. Within a short time, military officers arrived inside the university campus with their official vehicle and uniformed gunners and companions.
As soon as they entered the campus, the gun was pointed at the students, they fired directly.
The atmosphere became very tense as soon as the Major reached the campus. The students allege that the military officer started threatening the students without any conversation or trying to understand the situation. When the students protested against the intimidation by coming inside the campus in military uniform, the Major lost his temper and took out his official pistol/weapon and started firing directly at the group of students.

Lax action of police and influence of army
As soon as information about the incident was received, the team of New Town Police Station of Rawalpindi reached the spot. However, the students allege that since the accused was a senior army officer, the police initially avoided registering a case and detaining the officer.
Following massive student outrage, the video going viral on social media and pressure from the university administration, the police initiated a formal investigation into the incident and proceeded to register a case based on the statements of the injured student. The university administration has also constituted an internal inquiry committee.
Questions raised again on military dominance and civil rights in Pakistan
This is not the first case in Pakistan where military officers have used their uniform, force and weapons to suppress civilians in personal disputes.
Human rights activists and student organizations have strongly condemned this dastardly attack, saying that an army officer opening fire inside an educational institution shows how crippled the rule of law has become in Pakistan.
