All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) General Secretary and Tamil Nadu opposition leader Edappadi. Palaniswami (EPS) met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Tuesday. The meeting lasted for about 15 minutes, in which EPS held BJP’s Tamil Nadu President K.K. Demand to limit Annamalai’s role.

Alliance was broken in 2023, now looking for new equation

According to sources, the meeting focused on a possible alliance for the Tamil Nadu assembly elections in 2026. In September 2023, the AIADMK broke away from the BJP as the party was uncomfortable with Annamalai’s aggressive strategy and independent political style. Now this meeting is being seen as an attempt to re -establish a synergy between the BJP and the AIADMK.

What did EPS demand?

  • Appeal to limit Annamalai’s role – AIADMK leadership believes that his aggressive strategy can damage the coalition.

  • Recommendation of the formation of a high -level coordination committee – to create better coordination between the two parties.

There was also a conversation with JP Nadda

Earlier, senior AIADMK leaders also met BJP President JP Nadda and disagreeed on Annamalai’s political style. He demanded the BJP leadership to either ask Annamalai to apologize or remove them.

Ever watching the possibilities of alliance

Political analysts believe that if AIADMK and BJP join hands again, the DMK -led ‘India’ alliance in Tamil Nadu can be given a tough challenge. The DMK had won a huge victory due to the two parties fighting separately in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, after which the need for the alliance is now being churned again.

Will BJP-AIADMK come together again?

After this meeting, there is speculation in the political corridors that BJP and AIADMK may re -alliance before the 2026 assembly elections. However, the final decision on this will have to be taken by the BJP leadership whether Annamalai’s role will be limited or not.
