Only eight companies included in Sensex 30 are buyers of electoral bonds

Mumbai: Only eight of the 30 BSE Sensex constituent companies have disclosed in their annual reports for the last five years whether they have purchased power bonds or provided financial funds to political parties in any one year.

According to their annual report, these companies have spent a total of Rs 628 crore on political funding in the last five years.

If we look at the data received, a well-known telecom company has given the maximum amount of Rs 241 crore, while a steel company is also included with Rs 175 crore. Of the eight companies, some have purchased electoral bonds once and some in five years.

According to a report by a research firm, one company has provided funds five times, five companies have provided funds only for one year, while two other companies have purchased electoral bonds for two years.

Companies buying bonds include Bharti Airtel, UltraTech Cement, Maruti, Bajaj FI. , which also includes Tech Mahindra. Meanwhile, according to another report, bonds worth Rs 9.60 crore purchased by 33 companies have expired.

These bonds were canceled due to the political parties that had received them not encashing them on time. The bond has to be encashed within fifteen days from the date of issue.
