News India Live, Digital Desk: After the hustle and bustle of assembly elections and the spectacular victory, now the trumpet of ‘Civic Polls’ is about to sound in Maharashtra. Elections of many metropolitan municipalities including Mumbai (BMC), Pune, Nagpur are about to come and BJP has made a strategy for this which has created a stir in the political circles.

Deputy Chief Minister (and likely ahead in CM race) Devendra Fadnavis has made an announcement which is no less than ‘good news’ for the youth of the state.

There is often a complaint in politics that the youth are called to raise the flags, but at the time of giving tickets, the elderly leaders are put forward. But this time Fadnavis has decided to change this perception.

What is Fadnavis’s ‘40% formula’?
Devendra Fadnavis has given a clear message to his party workers and leaders that in the upcoming civic elections, 40 percent ticket Will be given to such youth whose age under 35 years Is.
Yes, you read it right! This means that almost half of the seats will be with ‘Youngistan’. This step is being taken so that the command of the cities is in the hands of new thinking and new enthusiasm.

Why is BJP taking this ‘risk’?
It would be more correct to call it ‘Investment for the Future’ rather than a risk.

  1. New Leadership: Fadnavis believes that the party has to prepare a batch of new leaders who can handle the party for the next 10-20 years.
  2. Connect with youth: The number of young voters in Maharashtra is very high. If the candidate is of their age, then both their affiliation and votes will be easily available.
  3. Entry Level Politics: Corporate elections are the first step in politics. By giving opportunities to the youth here, they can be prepared for big elections.

What will happen to the old leaders?
Obviously, this decision has increased the heartbeat of those old councilors who have been holding their seats for years. Fadnavis has made it clear through gestures that performance and ‘winnability’ (ability to win) will be the criteria, but the youth will get priority. Instead of “children of leaders” (Parivarvad), attention will be given to those youth who are working at the grassroots level.
