Now not only cash will be issued from ATM, new debit card will also be issued! Activated card will be available from the machine in 2 minutes; Know the process and benefits

The biggest problem customers faced when opening a new bank account or losing, breaking or expiring an existing debit card was that they had to wait for the post or courier for 7 to 10 days for a new plastic card. But now a revolutionary change has come in the banking sector. Taking self-service banking to the next level, Indian banks have introduced the facility of Card Dispensing Kiosks/Smart ATMs (Instant Debit Card Dispenser Kiosk).

Now customers neither need to fill forms at the bank branch nor wait for the postman. Just as cash is dispensed from an ATM machine, this machine will dispense your new and activated debit card in just 2 minutes.

The process of obtaining an Instant Debit Card from an ATM or Card Dispenser Kiosk is extremely secure, paperless and fast:

  • Step 1: Go to the machine and select options: Go to the bank’s e-corner or kiosk and click on the ‘Instant Debit Card Issuance / Re-issue’ Tap Options.

  • Step 2: Enter account and Aadhaar number: Enter your 11 or 12 digit bank account number or 12 digit Aadhaar number on the screen.

  • Step 3: Biometric or OTP Authentication: For security verification, place your thumb on the fingerprint scanner installed on the machine or enter the 6 digit OTP (One Time Password) received on your registered mobile number.

  • Step 4: Selecting Card Variant: On the screen you will see the available debit cards (RuPay, Visa or Mastercard) and their types (Classic, Platinum). Choose the card as per your need.

  • Step 5: Card Printing and Dispensing: Within a few seconds the thermal printer inside the machine prints/embosses your name and details on the card. After this your new debit card comes out directly from the dispenser slot.

  • Step 6: Set the Green Pin: Set the 4 digit secret PIN of your new card using the ‘Generate PIN’ option immediately on the same machine. The card is activated instantly and you can start transacting with it right away.

The introduction of this new technology will provide great relief to common account holders at many levels:

  • 1. Zero Waiting Time: Earlier it used to take one to two weeks for the new card to arrive through speed post. Now this work is completed without any delay in 2 to 3 minutes.

  • 2. Eliminate the risk of delivery fraud and card theft: When cards were sent via courier, there was a risk of packet loss, delivery to the wrong address, or card cloning/interception in transit. This risk is 100% eliminated by getting the card directly from the machine.

  • 3. Instant Backup in Emergency: If your card is suddenly lost or stuck in the ATM, you can immediately block the old card through net banking or customer care and go to the nearest kiosk and get a new card without any hassle.

  • 4. 24×7 Anytime Availability: This service remains fully operational even after the bank is closed, on weekends (Saturday-Sunday) or any public holiday.

This facility will not only provide convenience to the customers but will also reduce the operational cost of banks significantly. Branch staff will be relieved from the work of courier tracking, maintaining stock of return cards and sorting KYC forms of customers. Banks will now be able to focus more on complex financial products and customer service.

In the initial phase, this facility is being deployed in Digital Banking Units (DBUs) and 24-hour e-lobby centers of major metro cities, airports and major district headquarters, which will also be deployed on a large scale in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities in the coming time.
