News India Live, Digital Desk: There is a relief news for those who want Arms License in Bihar and especially for the elected representatives. The state government has taken a strict stance to eliminate delays in the licensing process. Bihar Home Department has given clear instructions to all the District Magistrates (DM) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SP) that the applications for arms license will now have to be disposed of within a fixed time limit. According to the new rules, the licensing process will have to be completed within a maximum of 60 days from the submission of the application.

‘Deadline’ of 30 days for police report, police station will take action against procrastination

Police Verification takes the most time in the licensing process. Keeping this in mind, the government has made strict rules for police stations also. According to the order of the Home Department, after receiving the application, the concerned police station will have to submit its investigation report to the district headquarters within 30 days. If a police station in-charge delays it, he will have to give a solid reason for it. On the instructions of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the Home Department has asked to strictly follow the provisions of Arms Rules, 2016 so that a transparent system is maintained.

Special attention to the security of public representatives, report will have to be given every month

In view of the recent attacks on Mukhiyas and Sarpanches in Bihar, the government has decided to give priority to the applications of public representatives. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary had also assured in the Assembly that the public representatives will soon be given licenses for security. Now all DMs and SPs will have to send their monthly progress report to the Home Department by 7th of every month. In this report, it will have to be mentioned how many applications were received, how many were executed and how many are pending.

Crackdown on corruption and brokers

By setting a fixed time limit, it is expected that the commission of commission in collectorate and police stations will be curbed. Till now, people had to wait for months and sometimes years to get a license, due to which there was scope for corruption. This new ‘time bound’ formula of the Home Department will not only facilitate the general public but will also streamline the licensing process to maintain law and order. The department has warned that disciplinary action may be taken against officials who violate the deadline.
