News India Live, Digital Desk: During the budget session of Bihar Legislature, a strange situation arose today when Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Rabri Devi came face to face. While the opposition cornered the government on issues like deteriorating law and order and paper leaks, the Chief Minister hit back and reminded the old RJD regime.

Nitish vs Rabri: When Rabri Devi accused the government of failing to provide employment to the youth, Nitish Kumar stood up from his seat. He said, “Everyone knows what happened during your time. Work started in Bihar when we came.” On this, RJD members came to ‘Well’ and started raising slogans.

Prem Kumar’s answer: Minister Prem Kumar, while answering the opposition’s questions, said that the government is going to bring a historic budget in the field of agriculture and employment, due to which the opposition is nervous.

Issue of paper leak and crime: In the absence of Tejashwi Yadav, RJD MLAs demonstrated outside and inside the House over the ‘paper leak’ issue. He demanded that the government hold a special discussion on this.

Clash in Legislative Council also: Even in the Legislative Council, Rabri Devi accused the government of breaking promises regarding ‘special status’.

Main demands of opposition

Employment issue: RJD claims that the present government is taking credit for the appointments started during his time.

Smart Meter: The opposition raised the ongoing protest against smart meters across Bihar prominently in the House and termed it as ‘looting of the public’.

Women Safety: Referring to some recent incidents, the opposition raised questions on the Home Department (which is with the Chief Minister).

What will happen next?

The proceedings of the Assembly have been adjourned till lunch break. The demands for grants of various departments of the budget are to be discussed in the afternoon. There are speculations that the opposition may adopt the strategy of ‘walkout’ to corner the government during the budget session.
