As the time of the country’s biggest medical entrance exam NEET UG (NEET UG 2026) is coming closer, the heartbeats of the students are increasing. Millions of students’ dream of becoming a doctor depends on how they perform within those 3 hours 20 minutes of the exam. Even after years of hard work, many times students, out of nervousness or unknowingly, commit some basic mistakes on the day of examination, which puts their entire year and career at stake. Amidst the strict rules of the National Testing Agency (NTA), this time it is very important for you to keep some special things in mind before going to the examination centre. Let us know about those 4 big mistakes on the exam day, which you should avoid at all costs.
1. Ignoring dress code and carrying prohibited items
NTA’s dress code in NEET exam is very strict and even the slightest mistake in it can prove costly. Often students arrive wearing full sleeves, shirts with large buttons, or heavily embroidered outfits, which are not allowed at the center. Apart from this, wearing shoes is strictly prohibited, only slippers or low heel sandals are acceptable. Do not try to carry any kind of electronic gadget, digital watch, calculator, Bluetooth device, even any piece of paper or geometry box into the examination hall. If such things are found during the security check (Frisky Process), you can also be debarred from the exam.
2. Forgetting Admit Card and Valid ID Proof at Home
Under the stress of examination, many students forget to keep the most important document i.e. Admit Card (NEET UG Admit Card) in their bag. Before visiting the centre, ensure that you have a clearly printed copy of the admit card (with passport size photograph affixed), postcard size photograph and a valid original identity proof (like Aadhar Card, PAN Card or Voter ID). Keep in mind that photocopy or mobile ID shown will not be accepted at the main gate of the centre. Without this you will not be allowed entry inside the examination centre.
3. Haste or carelessness in filling OMR sheet
Most of the marks lost in NEET exam are due to wrong filling of OMR sheet. Many candidates, after solving the entire paper, darken the circles in a hurry in the last 10-15 minutes, due to which a serious mistake of serial mismatch is made and the subsequent questions also become wrong. Along with this, fill the roll number, booklet code and signature columns very carefully. Use of whitener, eraser or blade on OMR sheet is strictly prohibited; By doing this your entire answer sheet may be declared invalid.
4. Taking reporting time lightly and reaching the examination center late
Every year, hundreds of students are deprived of appearing for the examination due to unexpected problems at the local level (Geographical Impact) like traffic jam, bad weather or getting lost on the way. As per NTA rules, if there is a delay of even one second after the gate closing time given on the admit card, entry will not be granted at any cost, no matter how serious your situation is. Therefore, assess the distance and traffic of your city or nearest examination center in advance and aim to reach the center at least one to one and a half hour before the reporting time to avoid last minute rush and mental stress.
