The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has declared Maharashtra Governor and Senior BJP leader CP Radhakrishnan as its candidate for the upcoming Vice Presidential election. He met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Sunday, in which his candidature for the post of Vice President was discussed.
CP Radhakrishnan’s political journey is about 40 years. He has served twice as a Lok Sabha MP from Tamil Nadu and has also been the President of Tamil Nadu. Apart from this, he has also been the Governor of Jharkhand. He is currently the Governor of Maharashtra. As Governor, he has gained administrative experience in states and union territories like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana and Puducherry.
His contribution has been important in strengthening the roots of BJP in South India and in the party’s expansion strategy. He has worked on social and developmental issues in Tamil Nadu and has also received respect in all classes. Prime Minister Modi has appreciated him for his dedication, intelligence and service.
BJP national president JP Nadda described Radhakrishnan as Vice Presidential candidate after a meeting of party MPs. He said that Radhakrishnan has a long and influential experience in public life and is a suitable candidate for the post of Vice President. He has also appealed to opposition parties for support.
Radhakrishnan thanked Prime Minister Modi on the occasion and said that he has received the opportunity for national service. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will be the manager of his election campaign, while Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju will be an election agent.
This election is proposed on 9 September, and the last date for nomination filing is 21 August. CP Radhakrishnan’s candidature is also seen under the NDA’s ‘Mission South’ strategy, which aims to strengthen the BJP’s hold in South India.
