Heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning have wreaked havoc in many parts of the state. During the last 24 hours, at least five people died tragically after being struck by lightning in four different districts of the state, while many people were seriously injured. A 12 year old innocent girl and two women were also among those who lost their lives in this natural disaster. However, due to this torrential rain, people have definitely got relief from the scorching heat and a huge drop of up to 7 degrees Celsius has been recorded in the maximum temperature of the state.

The most tragic incident of lightning has come to light from Itki police station area of ​​the capital Ranchi. On Friday, in Kulli village of Itki, 12-year-old girl Ashrita was plucking mangoes from a tree in the field with her parents. Meanwhile, suddenly, along with loud thunder, lightning fell directly on the tree. Due to this, Ashrita died on the spot. At the same time, his parents also got serious burns in this incident, who were immediately admitted to the local health center for treatment.

Mourning spread in Garhwa, Dhanbad and Bokaro also

Apart from Ranchi, news of death also came from three other districts of the state, causing mourning in the entire area:

  • Garhwa District: A 45-year-old woman lost her life due to lightning in Garakhurd village of Kandi police station area of ​​Garhwa. A 32 year old youth died after being hit by lightning in Banajangha village of the same district.

  • Dhanbad District: A 44-year-old woman became a victim of lightning in Chungi village under Rajganj police station area of ​​Dhanbad.

  • Bokaro District: In Babudih village of Pindrajora police station area of ​​Bokaro, lightning took the life of a 21-year-old youth.

Meteorological Department’s ‘Orange Alert’ in 13 districts

According to Ranchi Meteorological Centre, this sudden change in the weather has happened due to the activation of two different low pressure systems (turf system and cyclonic circulation). Considering the seriousness of the situation, the department has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ of heavy rain and thundershowers for 13 districts of the state including Ranchi, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Koderma, Giridih, Dhanbad and Godda. Meteorologists have strongly advised people to stay in safe places during inclement weather and not take shelter under trees or electric poles.

Heavy drop in temperature, lowest mercury in Daltonganj

The effect of this storm and rain was clearly visible on the temperature of the state. In many cities of Jharkhand the maximum mercury has gone much below normal. On Friday, the highest maximum temperature recorded in Daltonganj was 34.5 degrees Celsius, which was 6.2 degrees below normal. At the same time, the temperature in Chaibasa fell to 33.4 degrees and in the capital Ranchi the temperature dropped to 27.8 degrees Celsius, which has given a big relief to the people from the scorching heat that they have been facing for the last several days. However, the Meteorological Department estimates that after the next four days the temperature may once again rise by 3 to 5 degrees.
