News India Live, Digital Desk: A tragic accident took place on Sunday (April 19, 2026) evening in Bojaya village under Sadar police station area of Chatra district of Jharkhand. A 35-year-old woman and her two daughters, who had gone to wash clothes in the village pond, died due to drowning in the water. After this incident, there is silence in the entire village and the family members are in bad condition, crying.
How did the accident happen?
According to information received from the police, the deceased Parva Devi (35) my two daughters, Geeta Kumari (8) And Malti Kumari (6) Had gone with her to wash clothes at ‘Barka Aahar’ pond of the village.
Slipped foot: While washing clothes, younger daughter Malti’s foot suddenly slipped and she fell into deep water.
Try to save: Seeing their daughter drowning, mother Parva Devi and elder sister Geeta jumped into the pond to save her.
Family caught in deep water: Due to the depth and slippery nature of the pond, all three could not control themselves and while trying to save each other, they fell into the deep water.
Villagers took out the dead body
When all three did not return home for a long time, the family started searching. Seeing clothes and slippers on the banks of the pond, the villagers feared something untoward. After much effort, local divers and villagers pulled out the bodies of the three from the water. As soon as the information was received, Sadar police station in-charge Awadhesh Kumar Singh reached the spot with the police force and sent the bodies to Chatra Sadar Hospital for post-mortem.
Announcement of government aid
As soon as information about the incident was received, administrative officials also reached the spot. Chatra Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Mohammad Zahoor Alam has expressed deep sorrow over this incident.
Compensation: The administration has provided compensation for each deceased to the victim’s family under the District Disaster Relief Fund (DDRF). 4-4 lakh rupees (Total financial assistance of Rs 12 lakh) has been announced.
Deaths due to drowning in Bokaro and Dhanbad also
With increasing heat in Jharkhand, incidents of drowning in water bodies have increased. This Sunday:
Bokaro: 10-year-old Rohan, resident of Kailash Nagar, Chas, died due to drowning while bathing in the pond.
Dhanbad: Shivam, a 9-year-old child who had gone to take bath in the Damodar river at Jahaztand Ghat in Bhaunra, also drowned.
