The weather in Jharkhand has once again taken a turn. The weather department has issued a yellow alert for 18 districts of the state, including major cities like Ranchi and Dhanbad. There is a possibility of moderate to heavy rain in these areas in the next few hours. Along with rain, there has also been a warning of strong winds and lightning. The administration has appealed to people to stay in safe places during inclement weather and avoid taking shelter under trees or electric poles.
Which districts are most affected?
According to the Meteorological Department, the weather pattern has deteriorated in Ranchi, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Giridih, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Ramgarh, Gumla, Simdega, Lohardaga, Khunti, West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Jamtara, Deoghar, Dumka and Pakur districts. There is a possibility of storm with thunder in these areas. Farmers engaged in agricultural work have been advised to exercise special caution. If you see thundering clouds while working in the fields, it is wise to immediately move towards a permanent house or a safe place.
Caution is the only protection: Department’s advisory
Due to continuous rains, waterlogging may occur in low-lying areas of the state, due to which traffic is likely to be affected. The weather center has advised citizens not to leave their homes without essential work. In view of the incidents of lightning, be careful while using mobile phones and avoid going in open fields. This alert issued by the department is expected to remain effective for the next 24 to 48 hours, after which the situation will be assessed and further information will be given.
Relief from drop in temperature
Due to this activity of monsoon, the people of Jharkhand, who have been suffering from scorching heat and humidity for a long time, have got a big relief. There has been a continuous decline in temperature for the last few days, due to which the atmosphere has become cool. However, this rain is not only helpful in controlling the temperature, but is also considered very beneficial for the crops of the upcoming Kharif season. Farmers are considering this period of monsoon as a ‘lifeline’ for their crops, provided they are protected from natural disasters like lightning.
