News India Live, Digital Desk: Microsoft Build 2025: Build in 2025, Microsoft Putting your next big bet for Windows: AI’s original infrastructure for agents. The company introduced the Model Context Protocol (MCP) as a new system-level capacity, designed to allow AI agents to interact with Windows apps standardized, safely. Its goal is to create Windows 11 as a basic level called “agentic future” by Microsoft, where intelligent agents can do meaningful work directly on your PC, tools and platforms.
Microsoft is installing MCP as the next stage, in which AI will be integrated into the operating system, which will not only generate passively reactions, but will also actively associate with apps, files and services from users.
At its core, MCP is an open, light protocol, which is essentially JSON-RPC on HTTP, which allows apps and AI agents to find and implement each other’s abilities. The idea is to enable uninterrupted orchestration between local devices and intelligent systems.
Windows 11 will support three roles within this setup:
- MCP client (agent who starts request)
- MCP server (apps or equipment displaying functionality)
- MCP host (platforms like VS code that enable these connections)
These interactions will be controlled through a safe proxy manufactured in Windows, about which Microsoft says that it will implement a coherent policy check, authentication and logging.
Security for Agentic Workflow-First Design
As agents-based systems are becoming complicated, Microsoft has made security a top priority. According to David Weston, Vice President of Enterprise and OS Safety at Microsoft, MCP was designed to keep in mind the threat models such as cross-prompt injections, tool poisoning and credential leakage.
To reduce risks, Windows will do the following function:
- Runtime Isolation of MCP Servers
- Compulsory code signature
- Micro user control
- A centralized registry of reliable mcp servers
“All sensitive actions conducted by the user should be auditable and transparent,” Weston said. Only those apps will be listed in the official MCP registry that meet the basic security requirements of Microsoft.
Industry partner supporting ecosystems
Prominent AI developers, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Perplexity and Figma, are already working with Microsoft to bring MCP integration to their apps. “We are excited to see Windows adopting AI agent experiences through adopting model reference protocol,” said OpenAI Chief Product Officer Kevin Veal. “It paves the way for the chat GGPT to join Windows tools and services.”
Microsoft will release MCP in private developer preview in the coming months, later a comprehensive access is expected. While MCP is still in the early stage of its rollout, the company’s long-term approach is clear, a tightly integrated AI-native Windows atmosphere, where apps and agents work safely and efficiently.
