News India Live, Digital Desk: Nitish Kumar, considered an expert player of ‘caste equation’ and ‘social engineering’ in the politics of Bihar, has played a big bet in the new team of his party Janata Dal United (JDU). Keeping in view the political changes and upcoming elections of 2026, a new national and state team of JDU has been formed. Backward Castes (OBC) and Extremely Backward Castes (EBC) have been given strong representation in this new team. According to the official figures of the party, about 46 percent of the members in the new committee come from this category.

Nitish’s focus on caste equations

Nitish Kumar has tried to convey the message through his new team that JDU is still the real voice of the ‘exploited’ and ‘deprived’. In the new National Committee, not only has the caste balance been maintained, but regional representation has also been given importance. With 46 per cent OBC and EBC participation, the party has tried to keep its core vote bank (Luv-Kush and EBC) united. Experts believe that after the caste census, this step will again strengthen JDU in Bihar politics.

Dalits and minorities also got place

Apart from the backward and extremely backward classes, leaders of Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and minority communities have also been given adequate place in the new team. According to party sources, in the formation of the entire team, special care has been taken to ensure that there is no resentment in any section of the society. The upper castes have also been retained in important organizational positions, so as to project an ‘inclusive’ image.

Confluence of experience and youthful enthusiasm

In this new team of JDU, along with many old veterans, young faces have also been given the responsibility. The party has given preference to those leaders who are active at the grassroots level and can take the party’s agenda to the people in the changed political scenario after the caste-based census. Nitish Kumar has clarified that the expansion of the organization will not be limited to papers only, rather the new team will work directly among the public.

Stirring in opposing camps

This ’46 percent formula’ of Nitish Kumar has created a stir within the opposition parties, especially RJD and BJP. Since there have been major changes in the power of Bihar recently and Nitish Kumar himself is starting a new innings through Rajya Sabha, this organizational change of JDU is being considered as a part of the upcoming strategies. Now it remains to be seen how effective this ‘social engineering’ proves to be for the party in future election riots.
