Married 20 women, duped them of money and jewellery, married bachelor 'groom' caught by police

The man married more than 20 women: The Nallasopara police in Palghar district have arrested a 43-year-old 'groom' who married 20 women over the years, duping them by stealing money and valuables from them. Firoz Niyaz Shaikh was arrested from Kalyan based on a complaint by a woman living in Nallasopara, MBVV police said.

Firoz preyed on exiles or widows from matrimonial sites

Giving more information in this regard, Senior Police Inspector Vijay Singh Bhagal said that according to the complainant, she met and befriended the accused through a matrimonial site, after which both of them got married.

According to the woman's complaint, Sheikh stole cash worth lakhs and a laptop from the woman. Accused Sheikh took Rs 6.5 lakh in cash from the woman in October and November, 2023 and then stole her laptop as well.

After marriage, he used to run away with cash and jewellery

Based on the woman's complaint, the police registered a case against the accused and upon further investigation, the police got shocking information. While investigating the case, the police found that Sheikh used to target divorced and widowed women from matrimonial sites and thus arrange multiple marriages and extract cash and valuables from them.

20 women were lured into marrying him

The police seized a laptop, mobile phone, debit and credit cards, cheque books and some jewellery from the accused Shaikh. Giving details in this regard, Bhagal said that since 2015 Shaikh had deceived and married 20 women from different cities of the country including Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Gujarat.
