Manmohan Singh: Former Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday night. Many leaders including PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, CM Yogi, Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Akhilesh Yadav, Mayawati have expressed grief over his death. Meanwhile, Asim Arun, a minister in the Yogi government, has taken to social media to recall his old days, when he was the chief bodyguard of then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Posting on social media, Aseem Arun said, ‘I was his bodyguard for about three years from 2004. The inner circle of security of the Prime Minister in SPG is the Close Protection Team, which I got the opportunity to lead. AIG CPT is an officer who can never stay away from the PM. If only one body guard can accompany the PM, then only this officer will accompany him. In such a situation, it was my responsibility to stay with him like a shadow.

Dr. Manmohan Singh was very fond of his car

Asim, a minister in the Yogi government, further said, ‘Dr. Sahab had only one car – a Maruti 800, which was parked behind a shiny black BMW at the PM House. Manmohan Singh ji often used to say to me – Asim, I do not like traveling in this car, my car is this (Maruti). Let me explain that sir, this car is not for your luxury, SPG has taken it for its safety features. But whenever his car passed in front of Maruti, he would always look at Maruti with interest. As if reiterating my resolve that I am a middle class person and it is my job to worry about the common man. Cars worth crores belong to PM, this Maruti is mine.
