
Malaysia Masters Badminton Tournament: Indian player Kidambi Srikanth could not finish his long title drought and lost in a straight game to the world number fourth player in the men’s singles final of the Malaysia Masters Super 500 Badminton Tournament held on Sunday. Recover from injuries and lost opportunities, Srikanth entered the BWF World Tour Finals for the first time in six years. The Indian player, who started from the qualifying round to the finals, lost 11-21, 9-21 in 36 minutes from the second seed Xi Feng, ending his impressive campaign. He had difficulty in penetrating the strong defense of Xi Feng and failed to turn early opportunities into success.
After the match, Srikanth said, “This week was quite good. This is my third competition this season, I did well in the first two competitions but I did not get much success in them. I am very happy with the way I am playing till now. I could not play as I wanted to play today, but Xi Feng played very well. So coming back on stage is a really special experience. Despite this defeat, he has impressed his performance throughout the tournament.
Earlier this month, he slipped to 82nd in the world rankings. With his brilliant skills, he has introduced the world to his ability. Srikanth last reached the final of India Open on the BWF World Tour in 2019. Even then he was runner -up. He was also a silver medalist at the 2021 World Championships. They have to perform even better in the coming time.
Initially numbers were lost due to mistakes.
Srikanth made initial mistakes which made him lose points and Xi Feng took a 6-3 lead. The Indian player smashed directly on the bankhand, leading to his opponent 8–5. Smash on Srikanth’s net gave the Indian player a five -point lead till the break. Srikanth had to pay a heavy price for Sacha’s mistakes. His two loose shots went long and Lee Feng responded with the exact crosscort winner, leading to the score of 14-8. Srikanth was behind 10–16. Lee Feng finished the opening game in 16 minutes with a continuous down-off-line smash. However, Srikanth performed well in the second game. But despite a tough rally, his strokes often widen, which helped Lee Feng lead to 11–5 leads.
