In today’s era, whether we want to find a new job or change our career, our first dependence is on the internet and online job portals. Even big companies in the country and the world have shifted their entire hiring process to digital technology. As easy and convenient as this system is, it is also proving to be equally dangerous. Under the guise of this technology, cyber criminals are now directly robbing the hopes and pockets of unemployed youth.
One such high-profile case has come to light from Noida, Delhi-NCR, where a young man was not only defrauded in the name of getting a job in the reputed company Amazon, but was also given a fake joining letter after extorting money from him.
Interview without questions and demand of ₹ 6,600
The victim youth has narrated the entire story of this deception that happened to him on the social media platform ‘X’ (earlier Twitter). One day the young man suddenly got a call from an unknown person, who introduced himself as a recruiter of a big company. After the call, information related to the job profile was sent to him on message, in which the name of the company was mentioned as Amazon and the post was ‘Digital Marketing’.
The young man was called for an interview at a fixed address in Noida. But when he got there, the whole process was extremely strange. In the interview room he was not asked a single question regarding his work, skills or experience. Instead, the talk about salary and package was started directly. Immediately after the conversation, the recruiter said that to credit the salary in the company, a special account will have to be opened, for which the young man ₹6,600 Have to give. The swindlers assured that this amount would be refunded later along with their first salary.
The young man fell into the trap of their words and immediately gave the money. As soon as he received the money, the fraudsters handed him an attractive ‘offer letter’ with the Amazon logo. However, when he returned home, getting a job so easily without an interview and asking for money started to irritate him. When he started researching on the internet about the real format and offer letter of the company, the ground slipped under his feet. He had understood that it was a fraud. When he tried to contact that number again, he found the phone switched off.
How to identify real and fake jobs?
To defeat this trick of cyber criminals, Delhi Police DCP Hareshwar V. Swamy has advised the youth to remember a thumb rule: “No real company providing job ever asks for money from you, and whoever asks for money from you, understand that he is not giving you a job but is just cheating.”
