Baloch rebels have once again launched a major strategic attack targeting the Pakistani Army in Pakistan’s troubled province of Balochistan. According to local media and security sources, at least 14 Pakistani soldiers died on the spot in this horrific attack, while dozens of others were seriously injured. After the attack, the rebels completely detonated several kilometers of main highways and roads with gunpowder in order to disrupt the movement of troops in the area. Due to this sudden attack, an atmosphere of panic has spread in the entire Balochistan province and there has been panic among the military forces.
This strategic attack was carried out in ambush on the main connectivity route of Balochistan. The rebels had already laid powerful IEDs (Improvised Explosive Device) under the road. As soon as the convoy of army vehicles passed by, there were several loud explosions one after the other. The explosions were so intense that military vehicles were thrown into the air and fell away. Soon after, the rebels hiding in the bushes and hills started firing indiscriminately with automatic and modern weapons. The security forces had no chance to recover and suffered heavy casualties.
The primary objective of the attack was not only to cause harm to military personnel but also to completely destroy the logistics supply line of the Pakistani Army. The rebels used large amounts of explosives to destroy several kilometers of strategic roads used by the army. Along with this, some main bridges and communication towers have also been damaged, due to which remote military posts have lost contact with the provincial headquarters. Due to damaged roads, relief and rescue teams are facing great difficulty in reaching the spot.
Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) or its affiliated rebel groups are suspected to be behind this attack. For some time now, the activities of rebels in Balochistan against Baloch rights, exploitation of mineral resources and China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects have increased rapidly. The Baloch community has long accused the Islamabad administration of exploiting their natural resources and violating human rights. This latest and major attack has given sleepless nights to the Shahbaz Sharif government and the Pakistani Army Chief, as it has raised serious questions on Pakistan’s internal security at the international level.
Immediately after the attack, additional squads of Pakistani Army surrounded the entire area and started a massive search operation. The help of gunship helicopters and drone cameras is being taken to arrest the rebels involved in the attack. The provincial administration has stopped vehicular movement on several main roads as a precautionary measure and imposed a state of emergency. Heavy security forces are deployed across Balochistan, yet there is an atmosphere of great fear and confusion among the local residents. Analysts believe that after this incident a new round of violence and military action may begin in the region.
